He wasn\u2019t sure he heard Tortoise correctly. \u201cDid you say something about a race?\u201d Hare asked. Tortoise elaborated: \u201cI challenge you to a race and I want all the animals present to witness your defeat.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hare started to laugh, \u201cThis is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard\u201d he said. \u201cIt will take you many years to cover the distance I can run in one day. It is silly to race against you. Everyone knows that I will win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Tortoise pleaded with Hare until Hare agreed to the race and a date was agreed upon. The day of the race came, and several animals came to witness the start of the race. There were also several animals waiting at the finish line.<\/p>\n<p>The race began and Hare bounded away, eager to get the race over with. He still thought it was ridiculous to be competing against Tortoise in a race. But what Hare didn\u2019t know was that Tortoise had positioned his cousins along the race path while Tortoise himself waited near the finish line.<\/p>\n<p>As Hare turned the corner around the forest path, he saw Tortoise walking ahead of him. \u201cThis is impossible!\u201d he exclaimed. \u201cHow did you get here? he asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThough I walk slowly, when I run fast, I run so fast you don\u2019t even see me pass you\u201d Tortoise replied. \u201cImpossible!\u201d muttered Hare as he ran past Tortoise.<\/p>\n<p>Hare started to run faster. As he turned another corner in the forest path, he again saw Tortoise walking ahead of him. \u201cYou\u2019ve got to be kidding me!\u201d said Hare as he approached Tortoise. \u201cHow did you get in front of me again? Hare asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThough I walk slowly, when I run fast, I run so fast you don\u2019t even see me pass you\u201d Tortoise replied as he slowly walked along. \u201cImpossible!\u201d muttered Hare as he ran past Tortoise.<\/p>\n<p>Hare started to run even faster. Again, he turned a corner and saw Tortoise walking ahead of him. \u201cOh no! This cannot be happening\u201d thought Hare as he ran past Tortoise. He wasn\u2019t going to stop to talk anymore. He tried to run even faster but he couldn\u2019t because he was tired from running so fast.<\/p>\n<p>Then, as he turned the corner to run the last stretch of the race, he saw Tortoise walking across the finish line ahead of him. \u201cImpossible!
